The coast road and Abbotsbury Hill

The B3157 is the coast road from Weymouth to Bridport and it goes straight through the village, in along Rodden Row, round the Square, and out along West Street. West of the village it climbs Abbotsbury Hill, two hundred metres of ascent with gradients up to 20 per cent. The view from the top is why the road fills with cyclists, motorbikes and coaches all summer. It was resurfaced between Abbotsbury and Portesham in 2026. It is not a restricted road. Lorries have every right to use it, which is a sore point on a street where the cottages sit on the kerb.
